The Bank of Florence

Built in 1856, the Bank of Florence is the oldest surviving bank building in Nebraska and one of the most significant landmarks in the Florence district of Omaha. Originally established during the Nebraska Territory days, the bank played a vital role in supporting settlers, land transactions, and local businesses during westward expansion.

Constructed of sturdy brick on North 30th Street, the building symbolized stability and growth in what was once a thriving river town along the Missouri. Although Florence was later annexed into Omaha in 1917, this historic structure remains as a powerful reminder of the area’s early frontier roots.

Today, the building operates as a museum and is proudly listed on the National Register of Historic Places, preserving the story of Nebraska’s territorial beginnings for future generations.

The Bank of Florence stands as a timeless piece of local heritage connecting modern Omaha to its pioneering past.
